Anna's Story
Born in the picturesque town of Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, I grew up on a farm where my deep love for music and art first took root. From an early age, creativity was my language — a way of connecting with the world around me.

After graduating from Vryheid High School, I married my high school sweetheart, Gerrit Swanepoel, in 1987. Together, we spent 25 wonderful years raising our three beautiful children on our farm, Klipspruit, nestled in the historic Blood River area.

In 2008, we made the life-changing decision to immigrate to Canada in pursuit of new opportunities and a broader horizon. We embraced our new home and proudly became Canadian citizens in 2016.

As an artist, I specialize in oil painting and freestyle airbrush techniques, while also exploring a variety of other mediums including mixed media and watercolors. My creative work is deeply personal, often inspired by nature, human emotion, and the journey of healing.

In addition to my artistic practice, I am a Registered Master Practitioner Clinical Counsellor (MPCC.CPCA) with the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association. I integrate art into my therapeutic work, using it as a powerful tool for emotional expression and transformation.

On this site, you’ll find a collection of my most recent artworks as well as commissioned pieces from over the years. Each creation carries a part of my journey and reflects my mission to bring beauty, hope, and healing into the world.

My Legacy:
To uplift, inspire, and support others on their path to happiness and healing — through the transformative power of art.

Anneke's Story
I was born in Vryheid, a small town in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. In 2008, when I was just 8 years old, my family made the life-changing move to Canada in search of greater opportunities and a brighter future.
In 2016, we proudly became Canadian citizens.Art has always been a part of my journey. I began selling my artwork shortly after arriving in Canada as a way to express myself and share a unique perspective shaped by my South African roots.
Through my art, I aimed to bridge cultures and inspire others to see the world through a different lens.Over the years, my work received recognition—earning awards, being featured in local newspapers, and even receiving commendations from the government and my town’s mayor.
It was humbling to know that my art was making a difference and inspiring youth in my community. For a time, I stepped away from art to pursue a degree in biology at the University of Calgary. But in my final year, something reignited. I found myself drawn back to creativity, painting again and rediscovering the passion I had as a child.
After graduating, I faced one of the most difficult moments of my life—losing my father. In that grief, I turned once more to art. It became my outlet, my sanctuary, and a way to heal.Today, I’ve returned to creating and sharing art—not only as a form of expression but as a celebration of resilience, culture, and the journey that shapes us. Through each piece, I hope to continue inspiring others, just as art has always inspired and guided me.
